Under the direction of the Safety and Security Director (“Director”), this position performs a variety of duties related to protecting the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians Tribe’s (“Tribe”) assets, premises, such as Tribal members, personnel, guests, vendors and contractors from a variety of hazards by enforcing preventative measures, by maintaining a high-visibility presence to deter illegal and inappropriate actions, looking for signs of crime or other hazards, taking action to minimize damage, and reporting any incidents to the Director and/or emergency services, as appropriate. Successful candidate must have knowledge of general investigation and law enforcement practices; government laws and ordinances related to theft, arson, vandalism, malicious mischief and trespassing; record-keeping and reporting techniques; oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; skills in conflict resolution and de-escalation tactics. Must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and defensively; observe, detect and deter improper behavior and unlawful activities; respond to disturbances and emergency situations calmly and rationally; effectively communicate; work with people from diverse cultures, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and must always maintain cultural sensitivity.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: high school graduate or equivalent and 1 (one) year experience in security or related field.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- BSIS Security Guard Card
- Community Emergency Response Team Certification (CERT) and/or obtainable
- This position is required to drive and therefore requires possession of a valid California Class C Driver's license and ability to maintain insurability under the Tribe's auto insurance policy throughout employment
- This position has duties and responsibilities that require regular contact with or control over Indian children and is therefore subject to the background investigative process to comply with P.L. 101-630.
All positions require applicant be at least 18 years of age. Those selected for a position are subject to a background investigation, drug screening and possible participation in the DMV Pull Program. References will be checked.
