Under the guidance of the Tribal Environmental Consultant and Natural Resources Manager, this trainee position will have responsibilities for all aspects of operating air pollution and meteorological monitoring stations, processing and validating data from monitoring stations, analyzing air and meteorological data, and other environmental testing and analysis. Trainee will also assist in evaluating results and making recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies. Successful candidate must have the knowledge of basic mechanical skills used in the repair and maintenance of analytical instruments; basic electronics and ability to utilize simple test equipment such as a digital volt meter; Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel. Must have the ability to operate computer with reasonable skill level; understand technical concepts and communicate them effectively; learn the basic concepts of air pollution measurement, meteorology and meteorological measurements, atmospheric chemistry, and US EPA regulations; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish good communication with grant funding officials related to the specific activities of grants; substantial experience in performing tasks involving basic mechanical assembly and dis-assembly of electro-mechanical devices; complete training as needed for required certifications related to projects/grant activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED and two years’ work experience in work involving collection and interpretation of data or a related field; OR
- Associates degree or technical degree desirable but not required.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Continuously throughout employment, must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license and maintain insurability under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
All positions require applicant be at least 18 years of age. Those selected for a position are subject to a background investigation, drug screening and possible participation in the DMV Pull Program. References will be checked.
